Fine artist Takahiro Iwasaki from Japan creates intricately constructed sculptures that symbolize technology and urbanization. Small threads emerge from piles of towels and other mundane domestic items make up transmission towers, roller coasters, farris wheels, and other complex structures. Working with carved tape, an unusual choice of found object, he carves detailed topographical maps with ambiguous locations. These tiny creations are so small and delicate they could easily be overlooked in a room.

Ofra Lapid - Broken Houses, 2010
Artist’s statement:
“The series Broken houses is based on photographs of abandoned structures neglected by man and destroyed by the weather. I find these photos on the web while pursuing an amateur photographer from North Dakota who obsessively documents the decaying process of these houses. His photographs are used to create small scale models. Afterward, in the studio, the models are photographed again, omitted from their background and placed in gray.”
